That&#8217;s the detail worth sitting with before anything else: this isn&#8217;t just another annual release; it&#8217;s the version most production teams should be building their upgrade roadmap around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everything shipped together this time. C# 14 landed alongside .NET 10, and so did ASP.NET Core 10, EF Core 10, .NET MAUI, and Aspire 13. The runtime picked up a smarter JIT compiler. The SDK got a way to run C# without a project file. Libraries expanded into post-quantum cryptography. Blazor, minimal APIs, and EF Core&#8217;s query pipeline all moved forward too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>None of that means much without specifics, and that&#8217;s what the rest of this piece is for \u2014 what actually changed in each of these areas, why it matters for your codebase, and whether now&#8217;s the right time to move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"NET_10_LTS_Release_Support_Timeline_Who_Should_Upgrade\"><\/span><strong>.NET 10 LTS Release: Support Timeline &amp; Who Should Upgrade<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>.NET 10 lands as an even-numbered release, which under <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.to\/ismcagdas\/what-net-10-lts-means-for-enterprise-applications-2cdh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Microsoft&#8217;s current cadence means Long-Term Support<\/a>: three years of patches and security updates running through November 2028. Odd-numbered releases like .NET 9 get Standard-Term Support instead, capped at two years. However, existing apps built on them will keep running. Previously, extension methods could only add methods to a type. City = city; replaces a full null-check block, and lambda parameters can now take modifiers like ref, in, and out without spelling out explicit types. C# also extended nameof to work with unbound generics like List&lt;&gt;, useful in logging and reflection-heavy code. Partial classes gain partial constructors and partial events too, letting source generators implement logic while your hand-written code only declares the signature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"NET_10_Performance_Improvements_Runtime_JIT_Enhancements\"><\/span><strong>.NET 10 Performance Improvements: Runtime &amp; JIT Enhancements<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The .NET 10 runtime&#8217;s headline work is in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalnumbers.com\/blog\/what-is-new-in-dotnet-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">JIT compiler<\/a>, and most of it targets a specific problem: interfaces and abstractions have historically carried a performance tax compared to writing raw, concrete code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looping over an array with a plain <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">for<\/mark> loop has always been easy for the JIT to optimize \u2014 it removes bounds checks and inlines aggressively. Looping over the same array through <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">IEnumerable&lt;int&gt;<\/mark> in a <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">foreach<\/mark>, though, introduced virtual calls that blocked those optimizations. .NET 10&#8217;s JIT can now devirtualize array interface calls, closing much of that gap. This is part of a broader effort to make abstracted code perform closer to hand-tuned code, rather than asking developers to choose between clean interfaces and speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stack allocation also expanded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>.NET 9<\/strong> \u2014 could place short-lived objects on the stack instead of the heap when it could prove they wouldn&#8217;t escape their method<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>.NET 10<\/strong> \u2014 extends that to small, fixed-size arrays of value types with no GC references, meaning a three-element <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">int<\/mark> array declared and used inside one method no longer needs a heap allocation or garbage collection cleanup<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On the hardware side, .NET 10 adds support for AVX10.2 instructions through the <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">System.Runtime.Intrinsics.X86.Avx10v2<\/mark> namespace. It&#8217;s aimed squarely at quick prototypes, small automation scripts, and throwaway proofs of concept where scaffolding an entire project feels like overkill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>File-based apps aren&#8217;t limited to bare scripts, either. Individual endpoints can opt out with .DisableValidation() if you need custom handling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OpenAPI support moves to version 3.1, aligning with the 2020-12 JSON Schema draft. This brings a real breaking change: nullable properties no longer use nullable: true, they use a type array that includes null. Schema examples also move from OpenApiObject to plain JsonNode, a smaller but easy-to-miss change if you have custom schema transformers.
